In a New York Times article, Mike Bloomberg officially announced his decision to not seek the presidency this year. This is probably for many of the reasons that have recently been outlined on this blog. However, he did write that if there is a candidate who emerges as an independent thinker who will challenge party orthodoxy with new solutions to problems that make sense, Bloomberg will work to help that candidate win the election. Really, this could be either Obama or Mccain.
Will either candidate consider Bloomberg as a vice president? A cabinet post? Bloomberg would be a powerful and credible force in either role. Bloomberg has met with Obama in the past, so it may be possible.
