Final push for Bloomberg

Our friends at Draftbloomberg.com sent out an open letter last week declaring a final 10 day push to show support for an independent run by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. His window for getting into the 2008 presidential race is closing as stringent state ballot access requirements across the nation will force action soon.

Although the likely McCain nomination has made the landscape less attractive for a Bloomberg run, as Mccain will attract independent voters that might have gone to Bloomberg, there is still value in having Bloomberg in the race. The conservative base of the Republican party is hardly enthusiastic about a McCain candidacy. On the other side of the aisle, the Democrats are waging a beat-down, drag-out nomination contest that could last all the way until the convention in August in Denver, CO. This means that Michael Bloomberg could come in now and begin to create a coalition of voters based on the common sense, non-partisan policies he would enact as president. In a year where neither party has a clear idea of the direction it would like to go, a third candidate could inject a new voice into the debate.

The right man for the job is Michael Bloomberg.
